Our September 2024 term began with gusto, with Ellen adding new additions to our repertoire including Because the Night by Patti Smith & Bruce Springsteen and an epic mashup of Pink Pony Club/Good Luck Babe by Chappell Roan. We performed a number of Christmas charity gigs including Orwell Nursing Home and our now regulars - Sing for Simon on O’Connell Street and The Black Santa Appeal at St. Anne’s Church.
In spring, we hosted our own concert at Richmond Barracks with a huge turnout and electric response from the audience. We continued to go from strength to strength throughout the term - adding covers of What is This Feeling from Wicked, Teardrop by Massive Attack, and bringing back some tracks from our back catalogue including Ain’t Nobody by Chaka Khan. The year culminated in yet another huge milestone for the choir - a sold out performance at the Sugar Club in June.
September 2023 began with a big welcome to Ellen O’Mahony as musical director. Ellen brought a great range of music to the choir with highlights of the year including covers of A Soft Place to Land from Waitress, Adore You by Harry Styles, and Fleetwood Mac’s The Chain. We kept some of our old favourites in the mix with an honourable mention to The Parting Glass.
Christmas 2023 brought us back to the RIA for a Christmas event followed by a host of charity gigs, including appearances at Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre for Daisy House, Sing for Simon on Grafton St., The Black Santa Appeal at St. Anne’s Church, and the Mansion House Fuel Fund.
In the spring, we performed a Lion King medley at ‘Animation Come Dancing’ – a fundraiser for the Jack and Jill Foundation and Focus Ireland. The year ended on a huge high with our own gig at The Complex in Smithfield – a sell-out show and our biggest to date.
We began our September 2022 term excited to be back fully in-person with a new musical director, Julie Shanley. Julie diversified our repertoire with songs including The Best of You by Foo Fighters, Tender by Blur, and choir favourite The Parting Glass, as covered by The Wailin’ Jennys.
We hosted a Christmas concert in Old Wesley, sang at the Dublin Castle Christmas Market, and performed at charity events including Sing for Simon on Grafton St., The Black Santa Appeal at St. Anne’s Church, and fundraising at the Mansion House.
In February, we were invited to sing for the Royal Irish Academy at the launch of *Work. Life.* by Claire O’Connell. We finished the year with a concert at The Pepper Canister Church and thanked Julie for leading us through a brilliant year.
In September 2021, we met in person for the first time in over a year under Covid guidelines in Iveagh Gardens. New songs included Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush, Can't Help Falling in Love by Elvis, and Everyday is a Winding Road by Sheryl Crow.
Christmas 2021 was quiet concert-wise, but we marked it with a Playlist Christmas decoration. In June, we had a joyful outdoor gig at Blackrock Park and said goodbye to our first musical director, Theo.
The 2020 term was fully online with virtual rehearsals and concerts. We learned Pure Imagination, Wrecking Ball, and To Make You Feel My Love. The term ended with a virtual Christmas concert live-streamed on YouTube.
In spring, we hosted a Zoom murder mystery social event. Despite the challenges, we wrapped up with a final virtual concert in June 2021.
In September 2019, we moved to Old Wesley RFC and expanded our repertoire with Halo by BeyoncĂ©, End of the Road by Boyz II Men, and Don’t Feel Like Crying by Sigrid.
After Covid hit in March 2020, we shifted to Zoom rehearsals and virtual performances, including a summer concert streamed live on YouTube.
Playlist was founded in September 2018 by five friends and led by musical director Theodora Byrne. Our first rehearsal took place in Merrion Cricket Club with a warm welcome and strong attendance.
Highlights included Alone by Heart, I Wanna Know What Love Is by Foreigner, Hello by Adele, and Fix You by Coldplay. We performed at our own concerts and ended the year singing on the main stage at Beatyard festival.
